Fighting Corruption in the National Social Security Fund (NSSF)
The legal team at UFL filed tens of lawsuits against several significant violations committed by the board members and employees inside the social security institution. The most significant of these was known as “the mother of all complaints,” revealing the mafia network of corruption under the direction of its godfather.
- The value of annual waste has exceeded 133 million American Dollars, with a steady rise in deficit inside the institution.
- There are huge unjustified costs and expenses dedicated to the purchase of personal gifts and cars.
- The vacancy of the posts of almost half of the board members and the inability to form a new board due to political interference has led to the absence of accountability and the disruption of reform plans.
- A considerable number of official documents have been forged, the most significant of which is the clearance forms of many companies and institutions.
- The criminal acts have been associated with establishing shell companies for money laundering.
Corruption of the Head of the Technical Committee at the NSSF
Since December 14, 2018, UFL has been investigating the corruption of the NSSF's technical committee head, "the corruption godfather." The alliance has filed several lawsuits in court for forgery, use of forged documents, breach of trust, fraud, waste, and embezzlement of public funds. They have also filed lawsuits against successive Labor Ministers to prevent them from exercising their power. One of UFL's top priorities is to keep a close eye on this case.
Corruption of the Director General of NSSF
On August 10, 2016, UFL started taking legal action against the NSSF Director General for the violations resulting from his refusal to implement administrative board decisions. These were followed by many complaints, including those involving the crimes of authority abuse and embezzlement of public funds.
Corruption of the Inspecting Doctor (Former Minister)
On November 21, 2019, UFL filed a complaint for negligence and embezzling public funds against the inspecting doctor (who also happens to be a former minister) as part of the investigation into the fraudulent recruitment files at NSSF. The inspecting doctor has never performed his duties at NSSF, not even for a single day, and his name has never been listed in doctor distribution lists, whether at hospitals or centers. None of the employees have ever seen him, and his name appears only when NSSF counts the number of employees and creates payment schedules.
UFL has also demanded suspending his end-of-service compensation, which exceeds one billion and two hundred million Lebanese Lira, and holding him accountable for failing to fulfill his duties from 2009 to 2019.
Corruption of the Financial Prosecutor Handling the NSSF Cases
On November 8, 2019, UFL lawyers filed a complaint against the Financial Prosecutor before the Judicial Inspection Authority for failing to follow the fundamental rules of law enforcement. The complaint came in regard to the manipulation of "the file of the mother complaint" of corruption in the NSSF, as well as the rejection of numerous complaints that were supported by concrete evidence. This was followed by the failure to make any choices towards prosecuting the corrupt individuals.
Corruption of Others
The corrupted individuals included other powerful figures who have facilitated committing corruption and covered up the perpetrators, starting from the employees of the first category and administrative board members.
