Garbage Crisis
As a follow-up step initiated by UFL concerning the garbage file in Lebanon and the wasted European funds, and to complete the required documents to be presented before OLAF, the European Anti-Fraud Office, UFL handed in today Thursday, July 16, 2020 a detailed updated list of the legal documents and lawsuits to the French MP in the European Parliament, former Minister Thierry Mariani, along with copies for the work team constituted, in addition to UFL, of Mariani, Omar Harfoush and Martin Jay who had conducted a report on the Minyeh garbage, more specifically Tripoli plant.
UFL confirms its follow up on this file with the aforementioned work team until the very end. Follow up will include Mariani’s visit to Lebanon as part of a European Parliamentary delegation accompanied by others who occupy high ranking positions in the Judicial Court soon in order to closely attend to the facts.
UFL was hoping to reach positive outcomes on the national level having exhausted all the methods in order to follow up on this file before the specialized court in Lebanon, yet what they have ended up with is more like a court mockery due to stalling and failure to take clear cut decisions against the perpetrators and the senior corrupt. This has pushed UFL to follow up on the international level, including providing international bodies in London with information about the file upon their request since this topic is associated with investment plans in the garbage administration sector in Lebanon away from the existing corruption.
