Garbage Crisis
The Civil Police dispatched by UFL carried out their first mission today, Monday, 29 June, 2020 at 2.30 pm in Costa Brava dump fill, more specifically in the composting plant inside it, given the unresponsiveness and neglection of the Council for Development and Reconstruction and Al Jihad Trading and Contracting Corporation of the lawsuits filed against them in this matter, particularly in the lawsuit submitted to Judge Rola Chamoun, who issued a decision on January 3, 2020, requesting clarification of whether the mentioned plant had begun work, in which light to consider the plan of action. It is worth noting that UFL took the task of implementing the decision upon themselves in light of the failure of the Judicial Police and their fear of prosecuting the politically supported corrupt, given the grave danger this plant poses to the citizens’ health and the unpleasant odors and toxic gases it produces in the vicinity of the airport and that the production of the poor compost cannot be sold or even offered for free to uninterested farmers, to be eventually reburied but only after it becomes a rich substance for waste and embezzlement, which repeats the experience of the useless Coral plant in Burj Hammoud.
To make matters worse, the Ministry of Environment responded that it does not have an economist to assess the environmental damage. In this context, the Minister of the Environment, Demianos Kattar, confirmed this in a scandalous report he sent on June 15, 2020, in which questions the feasibility of the Ministry of the Environment which is unable to assess the environmental damage, constituting a model of the nature of the current performance of the government in dealing with such a sensitive and significant issue!
In fact, the UFL Civil Police team was prevented from entering or taking photographs by the landfill guards and almost clashed with its members. The UFL legal team, however, preferred to place this data in the custody of the interim relief Judge in Aley, Rola Chamoun after they had barely managed to take some photos that directly prove the work in the plant to be attached to the file and presented to the Judge tomorrow.
This comes as a step to pursue corruption dens and directly target the corrupt away from the fragmentation in the street movements. Those interested in fighting corruption had better join the UFL team as violations in this and other UFL files are documented according to Judicial decisions awaiting implementation. Therefore, UFL places itself in the position of confrontation with the major corrupt perpetrators and prepares itself for yet another round of pursuing the corrupt until they are held accountable for all crimes committed against the environment and the public health.
